A mortgage, college fund, retirement, the inconvenience of children, safety, fuel efficiency, and countless other factors will block the decision to buy their desire. But in this modern age of advanced engineering and space age materials, a family man can finally lust for a car that is both convenient and fast. Now the only reason not to buy the car of their dreams, is the wife. Check out this list of the Top 10 Fast Family Cars and stop being a whimp and go test drive your favorite.
List of 10 Best Fast Family Cars Reviews
1. 2012 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT Limited
Kicking off the list, is a solid performer. Subaru’s in general have quite the cult following. The Legacy features the same 2.5l, turbocharged boxer 4 as found in the Imprezza and STi, with the same output of 265 horses, and 258 lb-ft of torque. All of this power is mated to either a 6-speed manual, or a 6-speed CVT transmission, and from there it goes to Subaru’s famous AWD. But enough about performance. This is a proper family car. It packs four doors, two front buckets, and a large bench in the back, plenty of room for children whom have legs.
2. 2012 Kia Optima EX Turbo
Kia is one of those names that used to be associated with cheap, mediocre products. The key word is used. Kia is one of the better emerging manufacturers of the last decade. A brand with a once poor renown is now an introductory luxury brand, epitomized by the 2012 Kia Optima EX Turbo. The engine bay is host to 2.0 liters of turbocharged fun, home of 274 horsepowers and 269 foot pounds of torque. In another word, fast. Mated to the front wheels via a 6 speed gearbox that comes in either manual or automatic flavors. 274 HP is the very edge of what is manageable in a FWD setup, but what you end up with is a roomy car that will hold 4 adults in comfort, or 4 children in addition to the driver. Which is hardly economy, but a downright steal from bigger more expensive brands.
3. 2013 Ford Taurus SHO
Ford is not a name that is associated with performance, at least, not for a very long time it hasn’t. Ford is associated with good price, decent quality, and not much else. The Taurus SHO epitomizes this ideal in all but one feature, which I will come to later. The Taurus packs the EcoBoost 3.5l, twin turbo V6, packing 365 horses and 360 torques, which is impressive for any car. The EcoBoost is mated to a 6 speed automatic gearbox and a rudimentary AWD system. This car is big, at 112 inches wheel to wheel, 203 nose to tip, 61in left to right. Large enough for 5 adults. You can’t only take the kids to piano lessons, but all your friends to the bar! The huge size, big engine, and complex AWD system pile on the weight, but nothing that 365hp can’t handle. Now, the one way this isn’t a Ford is its eye watering. But if you like your big, fast, American family car, the cost is all up to you.
4. 2012 Audi S4
Audi is a long established name in luxury, being German, and all. And the 4 series of cars is one of their best selling. The S4 is the second fastest car in the 4 series family. Under its hood is a blown 3l V6, packing 333 horses, and 327 torques. All that going to a 6 speed Tiptronic gearbox and the legendary Quattro AWD. And do not ever forget that Audis are always sumptuous cars with quality interiors, and the S4 has plenty of room for a family, and a family of four can travel cross country in comfort. Which is alot for a car that in the end, is just a tarted up Volkswagen.
5. 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec
Hyundai is not a luxury brand. But this car has many luxurious features and exceptional performance and power to boot. Under its hood is a 5l V8 with a rather nice 429 horses and 376 torques, mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission. Power goes to where its supposed to, the back wheels. It sports 19in alloys, and a modestly styled exterior. And it has 4 full sized doors, and a rather large boot, good for both golf bags and bodies, if the need arises. And, this car is a steal.
6. 2012 Lexus IS-F
A Lexus is a lot more than a rebadged Toyota. These cars are the foremost name in Japanese luxury, with good reason. The 2012 IS-F in particular, is a blisteringly fast car with substantial luxury and comfort. Stuffed under its hood is a 5L V8 packing 416 horsepower and 371 foot-pounds of torque, in a car weighing a tad under 3,800 pounds. The engine mates with the rear wheels via an 8 speed sequential paddle-shift transmission that is lightning quick. The power meets the road via 19in alloys and low profile, sports tires. The brakes are trick Brembo discs. The car has a healthy 184in length, just right for a person with a family. As with all Lexus’s, the cost is not cheap, but is not a bad price considering the other cars on this list.
7. 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8
Americans know how to build big, fast cars. Muscle cars, rods, and NASCAR being among the greatest of American traditions, and all. The Dodge Charger SRT8 brings muscle cars into the 21st century. This puppy comes loaded with a classic 392ci (6.4l) V8 pumping 470hp and 470 torques, and also boasts cylinder shutdown technology, if you are in a boring sort of mood. Mated to this is a 5 speed transmission, with power going to the rear wheels, ONLY. And this car is huge, you can easily fit 4 of your homies in it. The styling is mean, to say the least, and its exhaust note alone will scare little children and set off alarms in tight areas, say a parking garage. Its a pretty good price considering the closest cars to this in terms of price on this list packs either 30 or 140 less horsepower.
8. 2012 Mercedes E63 AMG Sedan
The number three car on this list is German. No shocker their. The German autobahn is one of the ultimate tests for a car, especially a fast family car. The Mercedes Benz AMG division offers up this, the 2012 E63 AMG Sedan. Propelled by a 5.5l, twin turbocharged, V8 engine, and a 7 speed gearbox to control the 518 horsepowers and 516 torques, this car is properly fast. But do not forget; this is a Mercedes Benz. The interior comfort and comfort is unparalleled in the industry. The E- Class is on its own a roomy car, prime for any family, never mind that the E63 packs all of the top of the line quality materials and trim.
9. 2012 Cadillac CTS-V
This is not a muscle car. This is not a boat. This Cadillac is a new fire breathing monster, bred from the Corvette ZR1. It packs a 6.2l, supercharged V8 packing 556horses and 551 torques, and a Corvette 6 speed transmission that channels the power to the rear wheels. At each corner is a Corvette magnetic shock absorber that was ripped off by Ferrari for their latest sports car lineup. This car handles superbly. Inside is a quality interior with plenty of room for even someone as tall as me (and I ain’t exactly short). And the price is excellent, a fraction of the cost of the top two cars on the list.
10. 2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo S
This is a blasphemy. Porsche is supposed to make only the 911, but the family man can praise God for it, because this is a proper Porsche, and is quite fast. Underneath the undoubtedly Porsche hood sits a twin turbo charged 4.8l V8, that comes prepared with 550 horsepower and 553 foot-pounds of torque. Fierce, to say the least. As standard, you have a 7 speed DPK transmission, and a Porsche modified Audi Quattro system. This car as a result grips the road like a child would its mother. But, this is one of the biggest cars on this list, and it is the only hatchback here. the interior will not just fit your family, but when the need arises, your football teammates. And you need to be a football player to afford one of these, as you need to become a member of the club of Porsche Panamera owners.
